Telstra’s THANKS program

Ewan McGregor

In Village Cinemas’ Gold Class at Crown, we sat, ate and drank to our heart’s content while a live stream of the Oscars showered down upon us.

Not bad for a Monday morning.

Fashion bloggers and website operators from Melbourne were hosted by Telstra in conjunction with their partner, Village to put on a unique show for those who cared about the celebrities’ clothing choices and had every intention of picking those exact choices apart.

You can read my wrap-up of the Academy Awards’ red carpet arrivals here.

Apparently, unbeknownst to me, Australians love movies. Not really the vibe I get from Australian society, but given several tens of thousands watched screenings at Village in Crown last year and over 65,000 choc-top ice creams were sold (I know…), I suppose there’s a leg to stand on. Perhaps I’m the odd one out.

Regardless, Telstra in conjunction with its partners EVENT, Greater Union, Birch Carroll & Coyle, Moonlight and Village Cinemas are now offering their customers $10 movie tickets and money can’t buy movie experiences all in an effort to make their customers feel as though they’re at the centre of everything the company does around them.

A cute sentiment.

For example, not that I’d ever want to, but one of the first money can’t buy experiences is the chance for a customer win an on-screen debut with actor Ewan McGregor in his most current film ‘Son of a Gun’. Exciting!

Telstra’s chief marketing officer, Mark Buckman said that the new initiative rewards and thanks our customers for choosing Telstra and connects them to the things they love. Plain and simple.

Some fun (and necessary) bits and pieces…

New research* commissioned by Telstra highlights Australians love of the movies, with the following findings:

  • Hugh Jackman is Australia’s favorite actor of all time
  • Almost half of the respondents believe that if Hugh Jackman won the Oscar for ‘Les Miserables’, then his face should be put on a postage stamp
  • The Castle was voted Australia’s all time favourite movie
  • Cate Blanchett tops the list as Australia’s favourite female actor
  • The Matrix has Australia’s favourite movie scene containing a mobile phone

By registering on Telstra’s My Account at, movie loving Telstra customers will be able to purchase $10 tickets with candy bar upgrades available at any Event, Greater Union, Birch Carroll & Coyle, Village or Moonlight cinema complex nationwide.

Things you need to know – $10 movie tickets are subject to availability and restrictions. Surcharges apply for Vmax cinemas and 3D screenings. Tickets cannot be used for Gold Class, special events and movie marathons or in conjunction with any other promotion. Tickets are valid for sessions any day of the week except after 5pm on Saturdays and public holidays Check for full details.

*Based on a national survey of 1253 Australian residents by Pure Profile Research in February 2013

Thanks to Telstra, Village Cinemas Gold Class Crown and Eleven PR for the opportunity and especially to Village for their stunning service and hospitality.
