The Oscars red carpet 2013 wrap-up

The 85th annual Academy Awards went off in its usual style, without a hitch.

Fashion critics of all shapes and sizes spent most of the event picking apart fashion choices by the world’s most wealthy and well-known stars of the silver screen. And what fun it was.

Putting themselves up for inevitable slaughter on the red carpet and through their arrival, celebrities, movie stars, film directors and the like displayed their designed couture or store-bought frocks, suits and garments for the enjoyment of billions of eyes worldwide.

Brave souls.

The Oscars are the be all and end all of the American and global film industry, celebrating the best we have to offer in terms of supporting actors and actresses, leading roles, animation, music and hair and beauty as well as everything in-between.

See the nominations at The Acedemy’s website here.

Often filled with tears of happiness and sadness, and a whole lot of laughs more often than not provided by the host of the night whom this year was the illustrious comedian Seth Macfarlane, the ceremony features a great deal of pomp and hype that the likes of myself are only too happy to delve into.

The best outfits of the red carpet arrivals were…

Adele

Adele proved to the world that bigger girls can 1) be beautiful, 2) be successful and 3) look amazing in a floor length, black sequined dress on the red carpet of the Academy Awards. Go girl!

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried is everyone’s favourite Mean Girl-cum-on camera beauty who looked nothing short of spectacular in her Alexander McQueen dress.

Anne Hathaway

I’ve always had a soft spot for Anne Hathaway and her most recent performance in the infamous moving movie reflective of the French revolution only ingrained her in my mind. She looked like a gleaming white Oscar statue herself, clean cut and fresh faced with her new hair style reminiscent of her role in Les Miserables.

Bradley Cooper

Sporting a classic Hollywood look with slicked-back hair and a bib waistcoat, Bradley Cooper did the male population of the red carpet proud.

Catherine Zeta Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones was stunning in a Zuhair Murad dress with husband tagging along. She embellished with Lorraine Schwartz and resembles a golden Oscars statue herself.

Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum is a beautiful man at the best of times. Put him in a suit and its almost unfathomable.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron was a favourite amongst all red carpet arrivals and critics in a bold white Christian Dior Haute Couture choice of two-part dress, which included a peplum waist and small, simple train. Phenomenal.

Charlize Theron 2

Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum

The sexiest combination of people on stage through the duration of the Academy Awards, Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum dancing on stage.

Chris Pine

Chris Pine. Gorgeous man, slim enough to sport a double breasted blazer and completely on-trend with a scruffy-neat look that all men should wear all the time.

Halle Berry

Halle Berry was the point of some contention amongst fashion critics. I thought she looked amazing with a structured shoulder, vertical striped metallic dress; very on-trend in Australia.

Helen Hunt

Helen Hunt. A lovely rich winter tone with a basic silhouette in believe it or not, a dress from H&M, embellished with $700,000 worth of jewellery.

Jane Fonda

Jane Fonda; classically timeless and bold in an invigorating sun yellow.

Jennifer Anniston

Jennifer Anniston wasn’t loved in her red dress, despite its bold, classic and striking colour. With her typical Jennifer Anniston look thanks to her hair, she blended into the background.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson looked like she was wearing the scales of a fish thanks to the couture work of Roberto Cavalli. Make your own decision.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence was dressed to win an Oscar in her Dior Haute Couture. For a 22-year-old actress, she’s certainly pulling the right strings.

Jessica Chaston

Jessica Chastin’s dress and hair made almost for the same colour palette look. By breaking it up with the tone of her lipstick and sporting fearlessly her porcelain skin, she couldn’t go wrong.

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland wore Donna Karan Atelier dress.

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart arrived on the red carpet in crutches but ditched them for photos. She looked plain. As usual.

Naomi Watts

Australian Naomi Watts wore emerald, making her one of the most on-trend dressers on the carpet. In an especially made Armani dress.

Nicole Kidman

Australian Nicole Kidman shone bright like a diamond in a black and gold dress by L’Wren Scott.

Thanks to Telstra and Village Cinemas for hosting a private screening for myself and a few others at Crown Casino, Melbourne.
