MSFW Designer Series Show 4

The biggest hurrah of the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week came to a close in a flurry of partial nudity, a fleshy feast for the eyes and enough tertiary tones to sink a ship.

The likes of some of Melbourne and Australia’s favourite labels showcased their spring-summer collections such as Alice McCall, Alpha60, Bul, Dress Up, Gorman, Kuwaii, Megan Park, Obus and We Are Handsome. None of which disappointed.

Colours for the large part remained placid throughout all labels’ collections with staple oranges, pale blues, purples and light pinks on offer with only the use of tribal and floral prints to hit the notion of spring’s print-on-print clash trend home.

Clean lines and all round feminine silhouettes throughout the use of peplum dresses and jackets as well as form fitting carrot pants, drop frame dresses and skirts and crop tops indicated an unavoidable summery feel to each collection, only exacerbated by the seemingly endless parade of swimwear on the models.

Standouts in the collection were those of Gorman, whose use of vivid colouration on print and in harmoniously clashing print-on-print as well as an overall tribal feel gave the allusion of movement in a collection that was predominantly form fitting and slender.

Kuwaii’s monochromatic palette indicated a very ‘hello sailor’ feel to the collection with tight collars, washed out colours and easy to move lower halves.

Most notably, Melbourne’s label Alpha60, typical for their blacks, whites and greys lashed out this collection with the introduction of some – admittedly safe – colours in garments.
