MSFW Made in Melbourne Show

The show’s presenter said that Melbourne doesn’t have its own natural beauty. Well, I don’t know about that little remark, but I do know one thing; when it comes to the creation of beauty and its metamorphosis into quality designed pieces of clothing, placed lovingly together in seasonal collections, Melbourne has it down packed.

The Fjorde Magazine Made in Melbourne show was a presentation of local Melburnian design talent in affiliation with the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, a testament to the creativity and beauty this city harbours.

Seasonal prints played to the fore in collections the likes of Lisa Taranto, Tai & Amaya and Aron in varying colour palettes, each unique to the tastes and signature styles of the designers behind them.

An interesting inclusion of sleepwear by Sleep’n Around walked the runway, not often seen in situations similar to this. The patterns on the fabrics and prints made for bold statements in sleepwear and added just enough cuteness factor to send to the point of almost gagging.

Most uniquely, Cadelle Leather’s collection made an appearance and added a unique point of difference to the predominantly fabricated and printed presentation. Leathers in varying cuts, colours and silhouettes from jackets to skirts and overcoats walked, maintaining their Melburnian hue with a slight pop of expert leatherwork and lick of colour.

Draped skirts endowed the models and dazzled the audience with even metallic fabrics making the grade in Lisa Taranto’s collection alongside Tai & Amaya.

Fur wasn’t quite present, but Kathryn Beker performed her best in making some allusion to one of Melbourne’s favourite winter garments in her faux adaptation that graced the front of her skirts and dresses range. Alongside heavy overcoats, clean, crisp silhouettes and largely feminine lines, Beker ended the show on a high.
