Before Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) 2012

The inaugural Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is set to kick off.

Melbourne is so wired and its fashionable icons, media, stylists and photographers are so geared, you can taste the excitement on the breath of every word they speak.

Hosted by the City of Melbourne, the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week is the third in a long line of fashion festivals around the country that herald and praise the talent of Australian fashion designers both emerging and established. With Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Sydney having recently come to a close before the even more recent finale of Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane, it is Melbourne’s turn to shine; and on all accounts, that is exactly what it shall do.

I have been fortunate enough (thanks to the team at PPR) to receive the okay to view the wonderment that is the following shows. No doubt, an aesthetic orgasm at each awaits.

I’ll be reporting daily here on Ravishing Retail and on StyleZilla and also live at my Twitter handle @JBanham, so be sure to follow me!

MSFW Designer Series, runway 1

First on my hit list, the nation’s most revered collections of designers the likes of Aurelio Costarella, Christine, Ellery, Lui Hon and Toni Maticevski will parade their current collections along runways accessorised by one of the country’s leading milliners Richard Nylon and styled by Peter Simon Phillips.

When? Tuesday 4 September, 9pm-10pm

MSFW Designer Series, runway 2

In a celebration of the seasons, colour and the vibrancy that Melbourne has to offer, the second runway in the MSFW Designer Series will bring forth designers the likes of Alice Euphemia, Arthur Galan AG, Jayson Brunsdon and Manning Cartel. The rnuway will be styled by Kate Gaskin, fashion editor at The Age Melbourne Magazine.

When? Wednesday 5 September, 9pm-10pm

Tomorrow’s Heroes runway

To feed my fetish for all things emerging designer and up-and-coming, I’ll be hitting-up the Tomorrow’s Heroes runway being held to celebrate the awesome talent that Melburnian designers bring to the fore. The runway will be styled by Connel Chiang and will feature designers such as Neo Dia, Orri Henrisson, Catherine Leon and Kinoak.

When? Thursday 6 September, 9pm-10pm

MSFW Designer Series, runway 3

What I love about Melbourne is its ability to love, welcome and embrace the varying sides of fashion. From the stylised to the obscene, there is smoething in this city for everyone. This runway likely speaks with that voice the most, hosting the likes of Friend of Mine, White Suede, Limedrop, Nobody and Strateas Carlucci; all of which have an intrisically interesting story to tell.

When? Friday 7 September, 9pm-10pm

MSFW Designer Series, runway 4

in the words of the City of Melbourne, “Designer Series Runway 4 satisfies the most discerning fashion elite, celebrating the diversity of the so-hot-right-now spring/summer season.” In other words: get excited. The likes of Alice McCall, Alpha60, bul, Gorman, Obus and We Are Handsome will grace the runway no doubt to shrieks of excitement from the audience.

When? Saturday 8 September, 9pm-10pm
