Better than mother’s Milk

It’s winter. The wind is cool, the sun – which we’ve surprisingly had a fair bit of – is strong and the dehydration factor is off the charts.

Just because you’re a man doesn’t mean you need to neglect taking care of your skin.

Short of – as much as so many of us would like to – dressing ourselves to the nines in layers upon layers of fabulous attire to protect our epidermises from these conditions, there is a remedy that when liberally applied, will stave off the cracked tradesman-like leathers some call skin and maintain a softish suppleness that attracts attention and lovers from far and wide. In an ideal world.

Funnily enough, one of Australia’s old time media faces and sporting legends, Michael Klim is flying the flag of male skin care in Australia, believe it or not. I’ve recently been made aware of the benefits of what he’s peddling and have to say, it wasn’t bad.

At first thought, Michael Klim, at one stage one of Australia’s most notable national swimmers has nothing to do with anything other than a spot of charity work here and there, running a few swimming schools and being a generally recognisable face in Australian media.

Disregard that and plaster him all over a readily accessible men’s skin care range aptly named Milk (semi-palindrome of Klim) that we can find all over Australia and you have what the man has been busying himself lately and for a while now, with.

The pleasantly packaged and cutely entitled products are honestly easy to pass-by on the shelf of any pharmacy, department store or supermarket, but once trialled will likely put enough nutrients back into your skin for you to never avoid them again.

Milk body wash

With marine extracts , honey whey protein and a zesty scent strong enough to tempt you to replace sprigs of rosemary from your Sunday roast with this concoction, the Milk body wash is a pleasant smelling and feeling wash, reserved for the more common skin type.

While it is easily mistakable for the consistency and fragrance of a body moisturiser, the body wash does its job in a lightly foaming and tingling manner. It is enhanced with a marine-based ingredient known as Vitaplex, which is said to naturally revitalise and refresh the skin.

I’d contend that most of the ‘refreshing’ is done thanks to the enlivening scent, but to each skin type, their own.

Generously packaged and retailing for $AU17.95 for 375mL, the wash is a stylish and stylised addition to the skin care array of any regular man after a middle of the road bodily sensation in the shower.

Milk face wash + scrub

Again, the scent gives the allusion you’re massaging a garnish into your face as opposed to a skin care product, but that doesn’t stop it from having a true and positive effect.

The Milk face wash and scrub is a lightly exfoliating and genuinely refreshing product for use on the most sensitive of skins. With few beads and their harsh sensation at what seems to be an all time low, this product is more a cleanser than a scrub that admittedly does leave the face somewhat parched, which thankfully doesn’t last long.

With ingredients such as brown seaweed extract, jojoba esters walnut shell and aloe vera, the skin definitely has a cleaner sensation after use.

Retailing at $AU19.95 for 150mL, you can’t necessarily go wrong.

Milk face moisturiser

Post-face scrub, normally moisture is required. This is where the ‘don’t be afraid to apply moisturiser’ rule comes into play.

The Milk face moisturiser thankfully also contains a sun protection factor element to it, making it ideal for use during the day after morning application. If however, you’re like me and your body seems to reject anything you apply to it throughout the day instead of absorbing it, perhaps save this for the night time before bed as the sheen it can – depending on how much you apply – leave somewhat of a slick behind.

Retailing at $AU29.95 for 150mL, it’s a good investment.

Milk moisturising shave milk

If you’ve read any of my previous skin care posts, you’ll know how much I loathe it when men don’t properly shave or use the best products.

This suitable for all skin types shaving cream is a lightly frothing, balanced and beautifully fragranced cream that made morning shaving easier than with any other simple store-bought product.

The formulation contains menthol to cool the skin and coconut oil – again tends to sit on the skin, so a thorough wash after use is required – to moisturise and a peppermint zest that leaves your face smelling good enough to lick, the Milk moisturising shave milk is a handy addition to the morning shaver’s cupboard.

This retails at $AU14.95 for 150mL.
