Porn for the fashionsexual – part 2

(See ‘part 1’ here.)

A whole new mess of porn for the fashionsexual has been pumped out by the Penthouse this 2012, which on Friday (9 March 2012) night, culminated in an explosion of all things independent and fashion in the one hit.

A fairly typical Friday night outside the Penthouse was inverted within the confines of the warehouse, which had transformed from when last we saw its layout.

Dramatic black curtains suspended down the centre of the space, converting one side into the pre-runway bar, with the other side playing stage to the double runway that our models waltzed down to the beat of underground music.

The night was divided into two shows, which separated designers into two very loosely defined groups. One more mainstream, with the likes of Upper Left Arm and Bento, while the other displayed designers and their work of a more dark, textured and left-of-centre aspect.

In anyone’s language, the shows, the designers and the pieces of clothing on display were breathtaking.

Show one featured the stunning work of Leonard Street, Autonomy, The Social Studio, Kings of Carnaby, Bento and Upper Left Arm. All in a flare of sartorial amazement and with a very commercially minded approach to their designs, aiming very much at the market segment that fly the mainstream flag with a hint of unique ubiquity.

Show two wowed the crowds with its further additions to the smack-you-in-the-face goodness of independent up-and-coming Australian fashion with the likes of Alistair Trung, Di$count, Trimapee, Where Lovers Lie, Raggatt, Neo Dio and Above. Their unique mixes of colours in some ranges and blacks in others was an amazing testament to what we have to look forward to this coming 2012.

The show begun with Alistair Trung’s designs, which initially set the dark and foreboding tone for the remainder of the designers and pieces that ensued.
